Bad weather cuts power supply to 229 populated localities in Ukraine - Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Blustery winds and a temperature drop have cut power supply to 229 populated localities in Ukraine, Ukrainian media said on Friday, citing a press release of the Energy Ministry.

The Dnepropetrovsk region has reported the largest number of de-energized localities (79), followed by the Kirovograd region (51), the Nikolayev region (39), the Sumy region (28), the Chernigov region (13), and the Kiev-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region (18).

Power supply has resumed to all 123 localities de-energized in the Odessa region by the previous bout of bad weather, the ministry said.

The DTEK energy holding, whose power distribution network operator works in the Odessa region, said, in turn, they had resumed power supply to 241,000 homes, repaired 266 power transmission lines, and restarted operation of 5,466 transformer substations by Thursday evening.
