Shipment of flour from Stavropol region sent to China in first Digital Silk Road transaction

STAVROPOL. Jan 11 (Interfax) - Stavropol flour manufacturer Nika Plus has exported its products to China using the Digital Silk Road; the electronic transaction is the first in Russia to be completed as part of this project, the Stavropol Ministry of Economic Development told Interfax.

A trial shipment of wheat flour was sent from the Novorossiysk seaport in October 2023 and arrived at the port of Tianjin (China) in early December.

Minister Denis Polubin said, "57 tonnes of wheat flour produced in the Stavropol region in the city of Zelenokumsk were delivered to China via the Digital Silk Road. Our products have attracted the interest of foreign partners who are ready to continue their cooperation," a press release said.

He added that an increasing number of Stavropol companies are seeking to export their products to China. In addition to flour, the main exported products include sunflower oil, mineral water, confectionery, meat, vegetables, and bread.

The Digital Silk Road project is a key mechanism of China's foreign policy in the field of high technology. It aims to build community connections through e-commerce, fintech and education technology platforms and applications. The interaction between Russia and China as part of this project was discussed at the "One Belt-One Road" forum in Beijing in October 2023.
