Baku opposes Yerevan's idea to use 1970s maps for border delimitation - Aliyev

BAKU. Jan 11 (Interfax) - Baku does not accept Yerevan's initiative to handle the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation process using maps from the 1970s.

"If we speak about the political foundations, then we should take either the period when the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was established or the period of Sovietization as a reference point. This is a political methodology. If we prefer the chronological methodology, then let's see what maps there were at the beginning of the 20th century and develop our work based on these maps," Aliyev said, adding that "our work should not be based on any map at all."

"Expert groups should be set up to speed up the commission's work. Let them go around those places and define the border, because today our border is conditional," he said.

A separate expert group responsible for the enclaves should also be formed, Aliyev said.

"We believe that all enclaves should be returned," Aliyev said, reiterating the need to improve the roads leading to the enclaves and provide people with accommodation there.
