Freight traffic on Russian Railways network grows 0.9% to 1.4 bln tonnes in 2023

MOSCOW. Jan 10 (Interfax) - Freight shipments on the network of Russian Railways (RZD) rose 0.9% to 1.4 billion tonnes in 2023, the company reported in materials seen by Interfax.

Domestic freight traffic edged up by 0.1% to 818.2 million tonnes, while international shipments grew by 2.2% to 551.6 million tonnes, including 0.6% to 352.3 million tonnes through ports and 5.1% to 199.3 million tonnes through border crossings.

Import traffic rose 7.3% to 76.7 million tonnes, including 7.4% to 15.6 million tonnes through ports and 7.3% to 61.1 million tonnes through border crossings.

Transit traffic grew by 14.2% to 42.2 million tonnes, falling 16.5% to 1.4 million tonnes through ports but growing 15.7% to 40.8 million tonnes through border crossings.

Export traffic edged up 0.3% to 432.6 million tonnes, increasing by 0.4% to 335.3 million tonnes through ports but remaining flat at 97.3 million tonnes through border crossings.
