Azerbaijan intends to build four renewable energy stations with total capacity of 1.2 GW in Absheron by 2040

BAKU. Jan 9 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani government plans to construct four renewable energy power plants on the Absheron Peninsula by 2040.

According to the General Development Plan of the city of Baku through 2040 approved by the government on December 30, 2023, the city plans to build one wind and three solar power plants with total installed capacity of 1,200 MW in the subcenters of Alyat, Lokbatan, Sabunchi and Mardyakan.

The capacities of the solar power plants will be 400, 200 and 100 MW, and 500 MW for the wind farm.

Capital investments of at least 4.3 billion manat ($2.5 billion at the current exchange rate) will be allocated for the implementation of renewable energy projects.

The stations will be located on an area of 2,650 hectares. After 2040, an additional 3,310 hectares of land will be allocated for the development of renewable energy sources in Absheron.
