Polish farmers unblock border - Ukrainian State Border Service

MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Polish farmers have completed blocking in front of the Medyka-Shegini border checkpoint, and traffic has been resumed, Ukrainian media reported last Saturday, citing the Ukrainian State Border Service.

The trucks are being cleared and allowed to cross the border into Ukraine in the usual mode, it said.

"Currently, 650 trucks are waiting to enter Ukraine in front of the Medyka-Shegini checkpoint," the State Border Service added.

Polish Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Siekierski signed an agreement with farmers of the Deceived Village union to end the blockade of the border with Ukraine at the Medyka-Shegini checkpoint, Ukrainian media reported earlier in the day, citing Polsat News.

Siekierski pledged to meet all of the demands made by the farmers, among them: activating subsidies for corn amounting to 1 million zlotys, increased loans for liquidity in the amount of 2.5 billion zlotys and maintaining the amount of agricultural tax at the 2023 level, it said.

"Upon signing the agreement, the protest at the border crossing in Medyka is suspended for the period necessary to carry out legal and notification changes and for the time necessary to implement additional changes," Polsat News quoted the agreement as saying.
