Ukraine's financing needs for 2024 top $37 bln - PM

MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Ukraine expects to receive stable and timely assistance from international partners in 2024, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.

"We received $42.6 billion in external financing in 2023. Grants accounted for 27% of this amount. The leaders of support remain unchanged - the European Union, the United States, the International Monetary Fund, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the World Bank. Our needs for this year are more than $37 billion. We count on rhythmic, stable and timely assistance from our partners," Ukrainian media quoted Shmygal as saying at a government meeting on Wednesday, January 3.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is steadily increasing its own budget revenues, primarily customs and tax revenues, he said.

"The general fund of the state budget received more than 1.1 trillion hryvni in taxes, duties and other payments last year. We allocate all these funds for security and defense. We plan to spend over 750 billion hryvni on payments to the military this year, and more than 265 billion hryvni on procurement, production and repair of weapons," Shmygal said.

Boosting Ukraine's own military production remains a key objective, he said. The production capacity of Ukraine's defense industry tripled in 2023. The goal for 2024 is to ensure its six-fold increase.
