Kyrgyzstan ratifies amendments to CSTO peacekeeping agreement

BISHKEK. Dec 29 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan has ratified amendments to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) peacekeeping agreement, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov's press service said on Friday.

"Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has signed into law the bill On Ratification of the Protocol Amending the Collective Security Treaty Organization Agreement on Peacekeeping Activity dated October 6, 2007, which was signed in Dushanbe on September 16, 2021," the press service said.

From now on, CSTO peacekeeping forces designated for a UN peacekeeping operation shall be formed under the aegis of "the coordinating state," a CSTO member state named by the CSTO Collective Security Council.

"The terms of participation of the CSTO collective peacekeeping force in a UN peacekeeping operation are set by an agreement between the coordinating state and the relevant UN agency. The inclusion of peacekeeping contingents in the CSTO collective peacekeeping forces is regulated by bilateral and multilateral agreements between the coordinating state and other CSTO member states," the press service said.

Each CSTO member state can also deploy its peacekeeping contingents, registered with the UN peacekeeping readiness system, for peacekeeping operations with the UN mandate, informing the CSTO Collective Security Council about such participation.
