Tajikistan, Iran ready to boost economic, trade ties

DUSHANBE. Dec 29 (Interfax) - Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda has met with Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian, the Khovar National News Agency of Tajikistan said.

"The country's prime minister reiterated the importance of signing two cooperation documents, the two countries' business forum held in November and other necessary measures to strengthen bilateral relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran," the news agency said.

Rasulzoda and Mehrabian reaffirmed their countries' readiness to enhance ties in the economy, transport, scientific innovations and other areas, establishing joint industrial enterprises to fulfill instructions given by the Tajik and Iranian leaders.

The Tajik capital Dushanbe earlier hosted the 16th meeting of the Tajik-Iranian joint intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, technical, scientific, and cultural cooperation.

The parties agreed at the meeting to boost bilateral cooperation in a variety of areas, such as trade, the economy, investment, agriculture, industry, energy, transport, communication and high technologies, education, science, healthcare, and tourism, and to create joint industrial enterprises with Iranian investors in Tajikistan.
