EIB to finance Ukraine's energy efficiency program

MOSCOW. Dec 29 (Interfax) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) has assigned 3 million euros for raising energy efficiency of 18 public buildings in Ukraine.

"The funding is earmarked for thermal modernization and energy-saving measures in healthcare and educational facilities," Ukrainian media said with the reference to the website of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

With these funds, the Ukrainian authorities will continue implementing the EIB's Ukraine Municipal Infrastructure Program (UMIP), aimed at improving public infrastructure in a number of municipalities, the website said.

"With the delivery of 3 million euros today, the total funds disbursed to UMIP in 2023 amount to 11.74 million euros," it said.

Out of this, 8.74 million euros was used earlier this year for facilitating key municipal developments, such as rehabilitating the Gribovichi landfill and solid waste management facility in Lvov, introducing energy efficiency measures in Sumy's kindergartens, and enhancing water supply and sewerage systems in Lutsk, the website said.

The UMIP is a 400 million euro multisector investment initiative to support public infrastructure projects in medium and large municipalities. UMIP's objectives include investments to restore district heating utilities, enhance energy efficiency in buildings, upgrade street lighting and improve water supply, wastewater and solid waste management.

The EIB's support for Ukraine since the start of the crisis has amounted to 1.7 billion euros of financing. The EIB also provided a 4-billion-euro credit line to support the integration of refugees from Ukraine in EU countries.
