Gas supply being restored in southern Uzbekistan following pipeline accident

TASHKENT. Dec 28 (Interfax) - Gas supply to the city of Termiz and several districts of the Surxondaryo Region in southern Uzbekistan bordering Afghanistan and Tajikistan is being restored following on accident on a gas trunkline on Thursday morning.

"The accident on the trunk gas pipeline in the Surxondaryo Region has been dealt with. Gas supply to consumers through the gas pipeline is gradually being restored," the Uzbek Energy Ministry said in a statement.

No reasons were given for the accident.

The regional administration said supplies had been disrupted due to an accident 101-190 km along the Muzrabot-Dushanbe trunk gas pipeline in the Surxondaryo Region's Bandixon district. It said gas supply to regional center Termiz and nine districts was suspended at 6:30 a.m. local time or 4:30 a.m. Moscow time.
