Poland absorbs surplus electricity from Ukraine due to sunny weather on Wed - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. Dec 28 (Interfax) - The Polish power grid operator PSE provided emergency assistance to the Ukrainian energy system for three hours on Wednesday afternoon by absorbing 600 MW/h of surplus electricity, the Ukrainian media quoted the power grid operator Ukrenergo as saying on its social account on Thursday.

Electricity surplus in the Ukrainian energy system occurred due to sunny weather enabling solar power plants to operate at maximum capacity, Ukrenergo said. To balance generation and consumption and ensure the system's operational safety, Ukraine requested emergency assistance and limited the operation of its renewable power plants for nearly two hours, it said.

Earlier in December, Ukrenergo requested emergency assistance for five days straight due to a power shortage in the system, which neighboring countries covered.

The daily consumption maximum on Wednesday was 0.6% higher than on Tuesday and was recorded in the evening, unlike in the previous few days, when consumption peaked at daytime.

"The amount of electricity generated by all types of power plants is currently enough for supplying all organizations and households," it said.

Ukraine has also increased the amount of electricity imported from Slovakia, Poland, Romania, and Moldova by 25% to 14,678 MW/h. Imports would continue for the whole day on Thursday, its capacity reaching 1,155 MW during certain hours.

As of Thursday morning, 52 communities were cut off from power supply due to adverse weather and 460 others for technical and other reasons, Ukrenergo said.
