Belarus extends embargo on Western food imports until end of 2024

MINSK. Dec 27 (Interfax) - The Belarusian government has extended the embargo on imports of agricultural products and food from Western countries, which imposed sanctions on Belarus until the end of 2024.

"Clauses 1 and 3-5 of Belarusian Government Resolution 700, dated December 6, 2021, 'On Special Measures for Certain Types of Goods' are extended through December 31, 2024," says a Belarusian government resolution published on the national website of legal information.

Belarus imposed a six-month embargo on a broad range of Western goods on January 1, 2022, and has repeatedly extended it since then. The resolution's appendix lists two dozen goods, among them beef, pork, milk, dairy products (except for those based on lactose-free milk), fruit, nuts, sausages, confectionary products and vegetables. Previously, the authorities introduced partial exceptions from the list.

The list of countries unfriendly towards Belarus includes EU member states, the United States, Canada, Albania, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and Switzerland.
