Ukrenergo calls for saving electricity, with 462 communities cut off from power supply

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - While the Ukrainian energy system has lately seen an unusual decrease in power consumption, its level still remains quite high, and therefore, it is still important to use electricity economically, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the national power grid operator Ukrenergo's statement on its social account on Tuesday.

The daily consumption maximum on Monday was observed in the morning, and it was 6.3% lower than on the previous working day, December 22, Ukrenergo said in its update on Telegram, describing this situation as untypical, as power consumption at the start of a working week is usually higher.

As concerns power generation, a thermal power plant unit in the eastern part of Ukraine was stopped for emergency repairs, while two other units were to be reconnected to the grid later in the day, it said.

On the whole, the amount of electricity generated by all types of power plants is enough for all customers, and electricity imports have also been growing, Ukrenergo said. Ukraine is expected to import 19,619 MW/h of electricity from Slovakia, Poland, Romania, and Moldova on Tuesday (compared to about 18,000 MW/h on Monday), its capacity reaching 1,190 MW during certain hours.

For various reasons, 462 communities across Ukraine remain without electricity, Ukrenergo said.

The Ukrainian Energy Ministry reported earlier that 52 communities in Ukraine were cut off from power supply due to adverse weather.
