Russia increases red caviar production 2.1-fold to 34,700 tonnes in last ten months, production of imitation caviar is down - Rosselkhoznadzor

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - Russia produced 34,700 tonnes of salmon caviar in the first ten months of this year, which is 2.1 times more than the 16,800 tonnes produced in the same period last year, head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert told reporters citing data from the VetIS system.

This result was possible thanks to the successful salmon fishing season (609,000 tonnes, the second best result after the record year of 2018), he said.

At the same time, the share of simulated red caviar in Russia for the ten-month period was only 2% of the volume of red caviar production and tends to decrease when there is an increase in the production of natural caviar, he said, citing data from the National Center for the Safety of Aquatic Products and Aquaculture Products subdivision of Rosselkhoznadzor.

Production of simulated salmon caviar over the ten-month period totaled 718 tonnes compared to more than 1,700 tonnes a year ago. The production of structured caviar remains almost at the same level as last year. Over the first ten months of 2022, 748 tonnes were produced, while 761 tonnes were produced in 2023.
