Ukraine, U.S. extend agreement to reinforce civilian nuclear facilities' regulatory systems

MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has approved a draft agreement extending the treaty with the United States on improving operational safety and strengthening regulatory systems for civilian nuclear facilities in Ukraine until October 25, 2028.

The relevant decision was made at a government meeting last Friday, Ukrainian media reported, citing Ukrainian government envoy to the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnichuk.

In particular, the draft agreement (in the form of exchange of notes) between the Ukrainian and U.S. governments on the resumption of the agreement for enhancing operational safety, reducing operational risks and reinforcing regulatory systems for civilian nuclear facilities in Ukraine has been approved.

It is stipulated that the agreement be extended for the next five-year period until October 25, 2028.
