Ukrainian farmers thresh 78.7 mln tonnes of crops from 2023 harvest - Agrarian Policy Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers have threshed 78.7 million tonnes of grain and oilseed crops as of the third week of December at 57.86 million tonnes and 20.76 million tonnes, respectively.

The grains and pulses have been harvested on an area of 10,509,000 hectares with a yield of 55.1 centners per hectare, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

The total harvest is higher by 23.6% year-on-year, or by 15.02 million tonnes, including grains by 24.2% year-on-year, or 11.26 million tonnes, and oilseeds by 22.1% year-on-year, or by 3.76 million tonnes. At the same time, it should be taken into account that corn has been harvested from 88% of acreage this year, while a year ago from 75%.

In addition, 11.86 million tonnes of sugar beet have been harvested from 248,600 ha. Although its yield this year, unlike grains and oilseeds, is lower than last year, thanks to the expansion of acreage by 38.3%, the harvest is 31.8% higher than last year.

As reported, winter wheat crops were sown at 4,166 ha this season, down 834,000 ha year-on-year, winter barley at 536,000 ha, down 255,000 ha year-on-year, rapeseed at 1,374 ha, up 110,000 ha year-on-year.

The Agrarian Policy Ministry said in its newly upgraded forecast that farmers will be able to harvest 81.3 million tonnes of grains and oilseeds in 2023, of which 59.7 million tonnes of grains and 21.6 million tonnes of oilseeds.
