Ukraine receives another 1.5 billion euro in financial assistance from EU

MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - Ukraine has received 1.5 billion euro in macro-financial assistance from the European Union, Ukrainian media reported citing Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.

"Therefore, the total budgetary support from the European Union this year reached 18 billion euro. These funds help us maintain economic stability and fulfill our social obligations," Shmygal wrote on his Telegram channel.

As reported, in December 2022, the EU Council approved a decision on macro-financial assistance to Ukraine for 2023 of 18 billion euros. EU member states will cover the bulk of the interest costs.

The European Commission says that Ukraine will have to repay the loans within 35 years, starting in 2033.

In January, the European Commission paid Ukraine 3 billion euro, which was the first tranche of this assistance. Since March, 1.5 billion euro payments have been made every month. The last payment was on November 22.
