UNHCR to provide $10 mln to Ukraine in compensation under Shelter Program

MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) will allocate $10 million in compensation under the Shelter Program in Ukraine, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the Restoration Ministry.

"The Reintegration Ministry and the UNHCR have signed an agreement on implementing the Shelter Program. Under this document, the UNHCR will allocate about $10 million in financial support for homeowners who give houseroom to internally displaced persons for free. Hence, they would be able to use temporary free housing under this program in 2024, as well," it said.

Under the Shelter Program, 3.7 million internally displaced persons have been provided with housing, and homeowners who have given houseroom to IDPs have received a total of UAH 2.6 billion in compensation, the ministry said.
