EIB provides almost 100 mln euros for Ukrainian infrastructure restoration

MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) has disbursed 99.6 million euros to the Ukrainian government for the reconstruction of about 200 projects in 18 regions of the country, the European Union delegation to Ukraine reported.

This financing, which is being disbursed in two tranches of 60 million euros and 39.6 million euros, is part of the EIB's Ukraine Solidarity Urgent Response package, backed by an EU guarantee.

"The European Union and its bank, the European Investment Bank (EIB), remain steadfast in their support for Ukraine, with a disbursement of €99.6 million to assist the Ukrainian government. This funding will rebuild and upgrade critical infrastructure, including hospitals, social housing and public services nationwide [...]," the press release said.

The funding will be used for major repairs, reconstruction and some new construction of hospitals, public buildings and social housing, as well as wastewater and water facilities. These improvements will benefit about 900,000 internally displaced persons, the release said.

The Ukraine Early Recovery and Ukraine Recovery Programs are two multi-sectoral framework loans from the EIB signed with Ukraine in 2014 and 2020 and totaling 540 million euros. As of the end of 2023, the first program has completed 100 projects, including the construction and renovation of 53 education buildings, 39 health facilities, nine housing units, four administrative buildings, three cultural centers, one library and one sports center. The latter program has identified 141 projects across Ukraine.

The EIB's support for Ukraine since the start of 2022 has amounted to 1.7 billion euros of financing for repairs for the country's destroyed infrastructure. The EU bank also provided a 4 billion euro credit line to support the integration of refugees from Ukraine in EU countries.
