Estonian parliament receives petition demanding PM Kaja Kallas' resignation

TALLINN. Dec 19 (Interfax) - Estonia's Centre Party on Tuesday submitted a petition to parliament seeking the resignation of Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.

"According to the results of the latest surveys, 71% would support Kaja Kallas' resignation. Almost 30,000 signatures collected by the Centre Party in a short period of time clearly reflect growing discontent in society," Centre Party leader and Tallinn Mayor Mihhail Kolvart said when handing over the petition.

Instead of helping people suffering from an economic downturn, impoverishment, corporate bankruptcies, and growing unemployment, "the prime minister is only concerned with raising taxes," he said.

Around 30,000 people have signed the petition launched by the centrists. The Estonian parliament must discuss a petition if at least 1,000 people have signed it.
