Russia, China completing procedures to admit winter wheat, barley to Chinese market - Rosselkhoznadzor

MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Specialists from Russia and China are completing procedures that will permit Russian winter wheat and barley to enter the Chinese market, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) reports following negotiations held in Beijing with representatives of the Department of Animal and Plant Quarantine of the General Administration of Customs of China and the Bureau of Safety Control of Imported and Exported Food Products.

"Rosselkhoznadzor's representatives have told their Chinese colleagues in detail about the results of monitoring the quarantine and phytosanitary state of wheat growing areas in Russia, as carried out this year together with leading scientific organizations. Taking into account the agreements reached, the Chinese side will analyze the materials provided by Rosselkhoznadzor, as necessary to complete the procedure for admitting winter wheat and barley," according to the press release.

China currently purchases only spring wheat and barley from Russia.

Prospects for supplying rapeseed to China from all Russian regions were also discussed during the talks. Exports are currently possible only from the regions of Siberia and the Far East. In order to expand the geography of exporters, Rosselkhoznadzor will send the Chinese side information about the spread of harmful organisms in Russia that have quarantine significance for China.

Specialists from both countries also discussed matters of access to the Chinese market for semolina and rye flour, particularly drafting the corresponding protocols for inspection and quarantine requirements. The documents are scheduled for signing in 2024.
