Used passenger car sales in Russia increase 20% over 11 months, 5.6 times higher than new car sales - Autostat
MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Used passenger car sales in Russia increased 19.9% from January through November 2023 to 5.273 million units, analytical agency Autostat said.
The market for new passenger cars, as the agency previously reported, totaled 939,254 units over 11 months. Therefore sales of used cars since the beginning of the year are 5.6 times higher than sales of new ones.
In November, the secondary car market continued its monthly decline for the fourth month in a row. Over the past month, 458,100 used cars were sold, which is 6.3% less than the October figure and 0.5% less than in November 2022. New car sales last month were reported at 109,706 units. (2.3% lower than in October 2023 and 2.1 times more than in November 2022).
As for brands selling on the secondary market, Lada retains its leading position. In the last autumn month, 111,100 used Ladas were purchased. Second place was again taken by Japanese brand Toyota, with 50,400 units. Next are Korean brands Kia and Hyundai (24,700 and 24,200 units, respectively), and Japanese Nissan closes out the top five (22,700 units).
As Autostat notes, all ten of the most popular brands have negative dynamics compared to the previous month, in the 2% to 10% range. Compared to November last year, only Lada (+5.6%) and Chevrolet (+1.7%) have shown growth. At the same time, Renault (-5.7%) sank the most over the year, and Kia (-0.7%) the least.

The most popular model among used passenger cars was again the Lada 2114 Samara-2 hatchback, with a November sales volume of 10,300 units. In second place, also again, was the Ford Focus (9,600 units), followed by the Kia Rio and the Lada 2107 sedan (8,900 units each). Hyundai Solaris also entered the top five sellers in the secondary market for November, with 8,600 units sold.
Compared to October, only one model of those presented showed an increase, the Lada 2110 (+0.3%). The rest are dropping, the Toyota Corolla declining fastest (-10.1%). In an annual comparison, six models show negative dynamics, while four are positive. The Hyundai Solaris (-10.6%) is in the worst shape here, while the Lada 4x4 SUV (+8.3%) is performing better than the others.
