Ukrainian agrarians harvest 78.3 million tonnes in 2023 - Agrarian Policy Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Ukraine's agrarians milled 78.3 million tonnes of grain and oilseed crops, 57.56 million and 20.74 million tonnes, respectively, by the end of November.

Grains and grain legumes were harvested from an area of 10,471,000 hectares with a crop yield of 55 centner per hectare, the Ukrainian media said, citing the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

Compared with data on the same date a year ago, the total yield is up 32.9%, or 19.41 million tonnes, including 37.4%, or 15.66 million tonnes, for grains and 22%, or 3.74 million tonnes, for oilseed crops. At the same time, it should be taken into account that this year maize was harvested from almost 88% of crop area, whereas last year the figure was 70 per cent.

In addition, 11.8 million tonnes of sugar beet were harvested from 248,000 hectares. And although, unlike grains and oilseed crops, its crop yield this year is lower than last year, the harvest is 31.1% bigger than last year's thanks to a 38.1% expansion of the area.

Only the maize threshing still continues, the harvesting of all other farm crops is already complete, the statement said.

It was reported that winter wheat was sown on an area of 4,166 hectares this season (834,000 hectares fewer than in the previous one), winter barley on 536,000 hectares (255,000 hectares fewer), and rapeseed on 1,374 hectares (110,000 hectares more).

According to a newly improved forecast by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in 2023 agrarians will be able to harvest 81.3 million tonnes of grains and oilseed crops, including 59.7 million tonnes of grains and 21.6 million tonnes of oilseed crops.
