Ukrenergo reports problems in Ukraine's energy system

MOSCOW. Dec 15 (Interfax) - Two thermal power plant (TPP) units in Ukraine were reconnected to the grid over the past day after repairs, so were two central heating power plants in the country's southern and western regions, but three other TPP units in different regions were shut down for emergency repairs, Ukrainian media said, citing Ukrenergo's information on social media.

An overhead high-voltage power line stopped operating in the eastern region due to severe icy conditions, causing no power outage.

No electricity consumption caps have been introduced, Ukrenergo said. Scheduled power cuts have not been used and are not anticipated either, it said.

Ukraine is importing 5,808 MWh of electricity at daytime from Slovakia, Romania and Moldova, which is 70% more than yesterday. However, its peak capacity, which reaches 790 MW during certain hours, is still far lower than the 1,700 MW technical ceiling for imports from Europe to Ukraine and Moldova. No electricity has been exported.

A total of 355 communities in the Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Kharkov, Sumy, Cherkassy and Chernigov regions remained without electricity due to adverse weather as of Friday morning. As many as 119 communities in the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk region have been without electricity for more than 24 hours.

Power supply to consumers in the Kiev region has been disrupted due to grid damage, Ukrenergo said.

In total, 445 communities across Ukraine remain without electricity for different reasons.
