Uzbekistan to commission electric vehicle plant in 2024
TASHKENT. Dec 15 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan plans to commission a plant to produce up to 10,000 electric vehicles per year in 2024.
Official Uzbek media report that the plans were unveiled on Friday during a presentation of proposals to develop automobile and agricultural machinery production, attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It was also mentioned that Uzbekistan plans to increase production of passenger cars to 1 million and farm machinery to 16,000 units annually by 2030. Farm machinery production is expected to exceed 3,500 units in 2023.
"Despite logistical difficulties, automobile production has tripled in recent years, and the total volume is expected to reach 415,000 by the end of this year. Three new private manufacturers and foreign brands have been brought in to put an end to the state monopoly and develop competition in the sector. Today, eight factories in the country produce dozens of types of automobiles, commercial and passenger vehicles, agricultural and special equipment," Mirziyoyev was quoted as saying.
