Washington tightens control over military assistance to Kiev - Ukrainian ambassador

MOSCOW. Dec 15 (Interfax) - The U.S. House of Representatives has voted for National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova said.

"Following a fast-track vote, which requires two-thirds of votes to make a decision, the House has supported the approved text of National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (NDAA)," Ukrainian media quoted Markarova as saying on a social network.

The bill allots $300 million for Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative in fiscal year 2024 and another $300 million in fiscal year 2025, while the facility is extended through December 31, 2026.

At the same time, the U.S. Department of Defense inspector general will serve as the inspector general of Operation Atlantic Resolve, publish every 90 days non-confidential information about the spending of allocations to Ukraine, give such briefings at the Congress on demand, and present quarterly reports on the spending of allocations for security, economic and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Such reports will contain information about losses, abuse and fraud.

The act tasks the U.S. secretary of defense with submitting reports on military assistance provided to Ukraine by allies and partners since January 1, 2022, every 90 days.

As reported, the U.S. Senate supported the act, which would now be submitted to President Joe Biden for signing.
