Kyrgyz president expects to pay off bulk of country's foreign debt by 2030

BISHKEK. Dec 15 (Interfax) - The Kyrgyz authorities expect to redeem the biggest part of the country's foreign debt by 2030, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said at the 2nd People's Assembly on Friday.

"The leadership plans to pay off most of the public debt by 2030," Japarov said.

Kyrgyzstan paid off $344 million of its foreign debt in 2023, the president said. The country will have to pay off a further $400 million in 2024 and $430 million in 2025.

"The next few years will see the largest payments on foreign debt. The period of large payments will continue up to 2030," he said.

Kyrgyzstan's major achievement is its GDP of one trillion som, which was reached over the past few days, Japarov said, noting the positive dynamics in budget revenue growth.
