Biden has no doubt Ukraine will become NATO member

WASHINGTON. Dec 13 (Interfax) - U.S. President Joe Biden said he had no doubt that Ukraine would eventually become a NATO member but certain conditions had to be met.

"NATO will be in Ukraine's future, no question about that. As we said in Vilnius, Ukraine will become a member of NATO when all allies agree and conditions are met," Biden said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the White House.

Kiev's accession to the alliance was not on currently the current agenda, as the attention should be focused on the Ukraine crisis, he said.

In late November, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said all members of the alliance agreed Ukraine should enter NATO after implementing reforms as recommended by the allies.

"We have now provided recommendations on Ukraine's priority reforms, including the fight against corruption, strengthening the rule of law, and supporting human rights and minority rights," Stoltenberg said at a press conference in Brussels following the first meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council at the level of foreign ministers.

"Ukraine is closer to NATO than ever before," he said then.
