Kremlin aims to develop relations with Latin American countries, including Argentina

MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Moscow aims at constructive relations with Latin American countries, including Argentina, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"We certainly aim to further develop relations with many countries of the continent [Latin America]. We have shared interests of participating in integration processes with many countries, among them Argentina," Peskov said in response to a question on whether Moscow-Buenos Aires relations might change after the new Argentine president's declaration of support for Ukraine.

"We know that contradictory statements were made in Buenos Aires before the election, yet they are being adjusted. We take it that Argentina can develop relations with third countries: this is a sovereign state and this is its sovereign right as long as this does no harm to our interests," Peskov said.

Moscow "intends to focus on general matters with Argentina," Peskov said, adding, "So, we are interested in developing bilateral relations."

As to whether Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to visit Latin America in the near future, Peskov said, "No, the president does not have Latin American visits on his nearest agenda."
