SIBUR registers climate project for construction of solar station at Polief enterprise in Global Carbon Council program

DUBAI. Dec 12 (Interfax) - SIBUR has submitted project documents for construction of a solar power plant at its Polief enterprise for registration in the Global Carbon Council (GCC) international program, the company said.

The production plan is about 18,000 carbon units.

The solar station at Polief was launched in April 2022 and has a capacity of 4.9 MW. It powers the production of Vivilen rPET pellets containing recycled plastic.

The company noted that this is the first Russian climate project whose units will be registered in the international program.

The opening of accounts and the issuance of carbon credits by Russian companies in the GCC became possible after the Qatar GCC Greenhouse Gas Program announced the launch of its own carbon credit registry. Previously, Russian companies' access to the program was difficult due to restrictions imposed by current registry operator, IHS Markit (part of S&P Global).
