Ukraine's electricity consumption remains at its highest level this heating season - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) - Ukraine's electricity consumption has remained at its highest level in the current heating season for the second day in a row, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to the Ukrenergo company on Friday.

The maximum daily consumption on December 6 was 4% higher than the figures recorded on December 6. The national energy company again recorded a high consumption level on Friday morning, and it is almost equal to yesterday's maximum.

Ukrenergo is forced to engage emergency aid from Romania and Poland again in the amount of 400 MW from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in order to avoid blackouts and maintain the balance in the energy system. At the same time, no consumption limits and blackout schedules were introduced and are anticipated.

"It is especially important to consume electricity carefully now in order to avoid shortages and maintain the balance between production and consumption in the energy system," Ukrenergo said.

Repairs are continuing at a number of power units at thermal power plants, and solar power plants are unable to operate at their maximum capacity due to dense clouds all over the country, it said.

Ukrenergo's repair teams restored one of the damaged overhead 330 kV lines in a southern region, it said.
