Kiev hopes European Council to give green light to EU accession talks next week

MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Ukraine expects the European Council's December 14-15 meeting to produce a positive decision on opening talks on Ukraine's accession to the European Union, Head of the President's Office Andrei Yermak said.

Yermak made these remarks during a phone conversation with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, Ukrainian media said.

The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada plans to adopt a number of key European integration bills within the next few days, he said.

"We will honor our commitments in full," Yermak said.

The parties also discussed a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and agreed to take steps to select a convenient date for this meeting.

As reported, Hungary is opposed to the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
