Ukrainian Railways to raise fares on international routes from Dec 10

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) will increase the price of tickets on international passenger routes by 3% to 72%, depending on the destination, to reduce its rolling stock and to continue to upgrade it, Ukrainian media said, citing the company's press service said.

"Losses from passenger transportation stand at over 12 billion hryvni. Changing the fares will allow Ukrzaliznytsia to maintain the price of tickets for train services inside the country at today's level and to continue modernizing its rolling stock," Ukrainian Railways said in a press release.

Thus, the price of tickets for the most in-demand Kiev-Warsaw-Kiev train will grow by 72%, but there will also be cheaper alternatives available on this route, the price of which will not be raised so seriously, it said.

For instance, depending on the seat class, the cost of travel to Chelm, from where there is a train connection to Warsaw, and back will grow within 4%-11% for trains departing from Dnepropetrovsk, 17%-48% for trains from Kharkov, and 15%-47% for trains from Kiev.

The price of tickets for night trains bound for Vienna and Przemysl will be raised within 3%.

The price of tickets for the Kiev-Przemysl-Kiev Intercity+ train will be increased by 26%, while the cost of travel on the Odessa-Przemysl-Odessa night train will grow within 37%-49%.

Meanwhile, the price of tickets for trains bound for Chisinau and Budapest and fares on socially important suburban rail routes will remain unchanged, the company said.

The new fares will become valid from December 10, 2023, as a new passenger train schedule is introduced, it said.
