Russian presidential election proposed to be held on March 17 - senator

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Russia's Federation Council will discuss scheduling the Russian presidential election for March 17, 2024, on December 7, the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Chairman Andrei Klishas said.

"The period when we can schedule the presidential election begins on the 7th. We thought that, as we would miss the period between the 7th and the 13th, we should not delay but discuss the issue at a plenary meeting tomorrow," Klishas said at a committee meeting.

"It is proposed that the election be scheduled for March 17," he said.

"We submit a draft resolution of the Federation Council and will discuss it at a plenary meeting tomorrow. Today, the chamber's Council will add the item to the plenary meeting's agenda at our proposal," Klishas said.

The Central Elections Commission decides whether the presidential election will be a three-day process, and its head, Ella Pamfilova, will be invited to the Federation Council meeting on December 7, Klishas said.
