First greenhouse complex using geothermal energy costing 68 mln euros to be built in Ukraine

MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - LLC Triosan Holding Ukraine, a representative office of Hungary's Triosan Holding, will invest 68 million euros in the construction of a greenhouse complex in Lvov region that will operate using geothermal energy.

The will occupy 15 hectares and create 180 jobs, Ukrainian media quoted Maxim Kozitsky, head of the Lvov regional administration, as saying on social media.

The greenhouses will be used to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and lettuces. They will be heated by a geothermal well, which will be built nearby on a 4.5-hectare site. The use of geothermal resources will dispense with the need for gas, saving up to 8 million cubic meters of gas per year.

This is the first such project in Ukraine, Kozitsky said.

Construction should begin in 2024, with the first stage to be launched in 2025. The whole greenhouse complex should be completed by 2028.

Triosan Holding is a Hungarian company founded in Budapest in 2015, according to its website. Its main business is the development of geothermal energy in European countries.
