Estonian border guards warn those traveling to Russia about possible border closure

TALLINN. Dec 4 (Interfax) - The Estonian Police and Border Guard Board warns that people visiting Russia may have difficulties returning home.

"Please note that if Estonia is forced to temporarily close its border checkpoints due to the migration pressure, you will no longer be able to return to Estonia via the given border checkpoint," the board said in an address to local residents released on Monday.

In recent weeks, Russia has allegedly sent groups of foreigners to the border who have no legal right to enter the European Union countries, it said.

"If this practice continues, we will be forced to close border checkpoints in order to protect national security and public order, as Finland has already done due to the migration pressure," the board said.

"If a border checkpoint is closed, it will be closed to all those crossing the border," it also said.

"This means that in order to return to Estonia, you will have to use another border checkpoint, which may prolong your journey by several hundred kilometers," it said.
