Russia increases flour exports almost one-third over ten months to 990,000 tonnes - Agroexport

MOSCOW. Dec 4 (Interfax) - In the first ten months of 2023, Russia exported 990,000 tonnes of wheat and wheat-rye flour, which is almost one-third more than in the same period last year and exceeds the export volume for all of 2022, the Agroexport center said.

The largest buyer was Iraq, which was in second place at the end of last year. In January-October, more than 150,000 tonnes of Russian flour was shipped to Iraq, 17% more than in the same period the year before. Georgia took second place with 126,000 tonnes. China also entered the top three, increasing its purchases of Russian flour 3.7 times to over 100,000 tonnes. In 2022, flour shipments to China reached 37,000 tonnes, while they were below 13,000 tonnes in 2021, the press release said.

Agroexport also reported that Russia has resumed shipments of wheat flour to Hong Kong, shipping 49,000 tonnes over the ten-month period.

Positive dynamics were also observed in flour exports to neighboring countries.

Agroexport named Southeast Asia (China, Thailand), the Middle East (Iraq, Yemen) and Africa (Ghana, Benin) as priority markets for increased shipments of Russian flour.

The center estimates the potential for additional shipments of Russian flour to foreign markets at over 500,000 tonnes per year.
