CASA-1000 power line project should be resumed - Tajik president

DUSHANBE. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon reiterated the need to resume the CASA-1000 high-voltage transmission line project at a meeting with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, the Tajik leader's press service said.

"During the meeting, the president of Tajikistan emphasized the need to resume the CASA-100 project, which connects the energy markets of Central and South Asia via Afghanistan," the press service said.

Rahmon and Banga met on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), it said.

CASA-1000 is a project aimed at building power generation facilities relying on renewable energy resources in order to transmit 1,300 megawatts of surplus electricity from Central Asian countries to high-demand electricity markets in South Asian countries. The project involves building new energy infrastructure.

The common power transmission system, which connects four countries, will enable Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to transfer clean hydropower to Afghanistan and Pakistan during the summer.
