Moldova to buy Russian gas at $831 per 1,000 cubic meters in Dec - Moldovagaz

MOSCOW. Dec 1 (Interfax) - The purchase price of natural gas supplied by Gazprom to Moldova will stand at $831.04 per 1,000 cubic meters in December, Moldovagaz CEO Vadim Ceban said on Telegram on Friday.

"The purchase price of natural gas supplied by Gazprom to the Republic of Moldova, with due account of calorific value, will be $831.04 per 1,000 cubic meters in December. The entire amount of gas from the Russian supplier will meet the needs of Tiraspoltransgaz [in Transdniestria]," Ceban said.

He said earlier, citing preliminary estimates of Moldovagaz, the price of Gazprom's gas would be $510 per 1,000 cubic meters in the first quarter of 2024.

The average yearly price of natural gas, included in the current tariff, is $750 per 1,000 cubic meters, Moldovagaz said.

Moldova stopped consuming Gazprom's gas in December 2022. Currently, gas is supplied to the Transdniestrian power plant, which generates electricity for Moldova.

Moldova buys gas at tenders on global markets for domestic consumption. The main current supplier is Moldova's state company Energocom. Information about Energocom prices "is confidential, according to the purchase-sale agreement signed in August 2022," Ceban said earlier.

As of early November, Energocom stored over 600 million cubic meters of gas, which would be enough for the western bank of the Dniester until March 2024.
