Russia loses seat on OPCW Executive Council following vote

BRUSSELS. Nov 29 (Interfax) - Russia has not joined the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the results of a vote in the Organization show.

"Decision adopted [...] 21 OPCW member states were elected to join the [Executive Council] EC in 2024," the OPCW said in a statement on X, published following the vote at the 28th Conference of the Organization's countries.

Russia was not included in the council members for the Eastern Europe region, as it was earlier, it said. Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania were elected to this group this year.

The 28th Conference of the OPCW member states is taking place in The Hague from November 27 to December 1.
