Ukrenergo records energy shortage once again, calls for consuming electricity sparingly

MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The Ukrenergo national energy company has warned that an energy shortage was recorded in the energy system of Ukraine starting on 1 p.m. on Wednesday and called for consuming energy sparingly throughout the day until 6 p.m.

"The cause of the shortage is a rapid growth of consumption due to difficult weather conditions and the simultaneous connection of thousands of consumers from the regions affected by the bad weather to the grid," Ukrainian media outlets said, citing Ukrenergo's post on its social media.

Power plants are unable to generate enough electricity to meet everyone's demands, as solar plants are barely functioning because of dense clouds in all regions, and some units of thermal power plants are still undergoing repairs, it said.

As reported, Energy Industry Research Center Director Alexander Kharchenko said on Tuesday that the population's power saving is a prerequisite for avoiding the use of outage schedules.
