Turkmen president, Azerbaijani economy minister discuss partnership prospects

ASHGABAT. Nov 29 (Interfax) - Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Tuesday received Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, who heads his country's delegation to the seventh meeting of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Ashgabat, Turkmen State Television and Radio Company said on Wednesday.

Ashgabat attaches great importance to expanding its multifaceted partnership with Baku, Berdimuhamedov said. Cooperation between the two countries successfully develops in all areas today. Turkmenistan and Azerbaijani also constructively interact within international and regional organizations, supporting each other's initiatives.

Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need to enhance the role of the two countries' intergovernmental commissions as an agency in charge of coordinating the development of bilateral relations in trade and economic issues, the energy sector, transport and communications, science, technologies, culture, humanitarian affairs, etc.

Berdimuhamedov and Jabbarov discussed the prospects of the bilateral partnership, focusing on the advantages of their countries' geographical location, which creates preconditions for joint projects of international significance in fields such as energy supplies, transport and communications, relying on the potential of seaports, boosting cargo traffic in the Caspian region and creating transport corridors.

The parties also reaffirmed their mutual interest in expanding fruitful ties in culture, science and education.
