U.S. to contribute $25 mln to Ukraine Energy Support Fund
MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Energy Community Secretariat have signed an agreement, paving the way for the U.S. to make a grant contribution of $25 million (23 million euros) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, Ukrainian media said, citing the Energy Ministry's press release.
It will be the U.S. government's first contribution to this fund.
The total amount of contributions pledged by donors to the Ukraine Energy Support fund tops 329 million euros, updated information from Energy Ministry shows. About 192 million euros of this amount has been transferred to the fund's account by 15 public and private sector sponsors from different countries. It expects to receive the rest of the funds - announced and formalized contributions - in the near future.
As many as 132 contracts were signed as part of the fund between January 1 and November 27, 2023 to acquire energy equipment, fuel and materials for nearly 100 million euros in total, the ministry said.
As reported, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established by the European Union's Energy Community Secretariat in the spring of 2022 to accumulate financial support for the Ukrainian energy sector from governments, international financial organizations and private donors.
