Russia and Uzbekistan launch logistics complex as part of development of Agroexpress project - Deputy PM Overchuk

MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Russia and Uzbekistan have opened a new agrological complex in the Jizzakh region as part of the Agroexpress project, which involves the development of the accelerated container rail transportation of agricultural products.

As the Russian government's press service reported, Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk participated in the opening of the logistics complex via video conference.

"The implementation of the project will allow the Republic of Uzbekistan to systematize complex production and logistics chains for exporting products not only to Russia, but also to many other countries, and to provide its own producers with export sales channels for products in accordance with international standards and at the lowest costs. The complex will provide sorting services to participants in the agricultural market, processing, storage, sanitary and customs clearance, as well as preparation of fruits and vegetables for transportation and logistics," Overchuk said.

"The scale of the complex allows us to call it a strategic facility that makes a serious contribution to the food security of both countries," he said.

The Agroexpress project is being implemented jointly by Russian Railways Logistics JSC and Russian Export Center JSC and involves the organization of accelerated container rail transportation for food products from Russia. There are now seven main Agroexpress export routes: four to China (from Moscow and the regions to several of the largest cities in China), Moscow to Vladivostok (and further to Chinese ports, Japan, and South Korea), to Azerbaijan, and since 2021 to Uzbekistan.

It was reported that Agroexpress will allow Russia and Uzbekistan to increase railway freight turnover between the countries to 1 million tonnes by 2030.
