Polish farmers block Medyka border checkpoint

MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax) - Polish farmers from Oszukanej Wsi started blocking the Medyka border checkpoint in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship on Monday, which may last until January 3, 2024, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Polish publication pap.pl.

Only cars, buses and trucks carrying humanitarian aid and military hardware are allowed to pass, it said. Protesting farmers do not rule out stepping up protests.

Farmers have already blocked the checkpoint in Medyka on Thursday, November 23, but then the protest lasted from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Starting from Monday, it will be round-the-clock and, as announced, will last until January 3.

Two trucks will be allowed to cross the border every hour, Roman Kondrow, who organized the strike, from Oszukanej Wsi said. The farmer is outraged by Lvov Mayor Andrei Sadovy's statements. If "politicians on the other side do not come to their senses, we will intensify the protest," Kondrow said.

The blocking of the Ukrainian-Polish border is disgraceful, Sadovy said on social media on November 25.

Kondrow called on politicians to "come to their senses and start resolving the border situation."

As reported, trucks are standing in lines stretching for up to 40 kilometers in front of the blocked checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border from the Polish side, the Yagodin-Dorohusk, Krakovets-Korczowa and Rava-Russkaya-Hrebenne border checkpoints, due to the Polish truck drivers' protest, which started on November 6.
