Ukrainian State Border Service updates border crossing statistics

MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax) - The number of Ukrainian border crossings dropped 1.7% to 458,000 on November 18-25 compared to the previous week, while the number of vehicles that crossed the Ukrainian border even rose 0.9% to 118,000, Ukrainian media reported, citing statistical data from the Ukrainian State Border Service on social media.

The number of those who left Ukraine across the national border fell from 236,000 the previous week to 232,000 this week, while the number of those entering the country declined from 230,000 to 226,000, it said.

The number of vehicles with humanitarian supplies cleared went up from 789 to 861.

As of November 21, the number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe was estimated at 5.946 million, and at 6.338 million globally, which is 50,000 more than as of November 14, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said.

There were 3.674 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine, according to UN data as of November 7, down from 5.088 million in late May. The UNHCR said that such a sharp decline is not due to a significant return of IDPs, but primarily due to a change in the methodology for calculating the IDPs. The new base population figure used to extrapolate IDP estimates now takes into account the absence of approximately 6.2 million refugees from Ukraine who are no longer in the country, it said.
