KazMunayGas, Abu Dhabi Ports Group JV gets two new oil tankers

ASTANA. Nov 27 (Interfax) - Caspian Integrated Maritime Solutions Ltd (CIMS), a joint venture between Kazmortransflot LLP, a KazMunayGas subsidiary, and International Maritime Investments Ltd, an Abu Dhabi Ports Group subsidiary, has received two new oil tankers.

A ceremony to mark the event was held at Kazakhstan's Aktau port, KazMunayGas said.

"The event on November 26 marked the registration of the Taraz and Liwa tankers," KMG said.

Taraz is named after a historic Kazakh city, while Liwa is named after a UAE oasis. The tankers each have a deadweight of 8,000 tonnes.

KazMunayGas head Magzum Mirzagaliev said at the ceremony that these tankers were key to developing the Trans-Caspian route and expanding the CIMS oil fleet for global logistics.

"With the acquisition of new tankers, we have taken an important step in the development of the Trans-Caspian route. In this regard, I would like to express gratitude to our strategic partner ADP for the successful implementation of the joint project. New tankers open the way for expanding the oil fleet of our joint venture CIMS, which has ambitious goals to promote its services to the global logistics market," Mirzagaliev said.

Built by the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group, the tankers are 140 meters long, 16.7 meters wide, and 4.2 meters in draft, with advanced control systems and compliance with international safety and environmental standards.

The tankers, set to start operations in December 2023, will transport Kazakh oil across the Caspian Sea.

Kazakhstan started shipping oil along the Aktau-Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route in March 2023, aiming to transport 1.5 million tonnes each year. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are equally sharing transportation. The new tankers will help Kazakhstan transport its share of 750,000 tonnes of oil every year.

KazMunayGas is the Kazakh national operator for the exploration, production, processing, and transportation of hydrocarbons, representing the state's interests in the oil and gas industry.
