Moldovan parliament terminates agreement on cooperation between Moldovan, Russian special services

CHISINAU. Nov 24 (Interfax) - The Moldovan parliament has voted in favor of terminating an intergovernmental agreement with Russia on cooperation on information security between the Moldovan National Security Ministry and the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service signed in Chisinau on April 18, 1994.

The parliament also severed an agreement on cooperation in training specialists of antiterrorist units at educational institutions of special services of CIS countries, which was concluded in Ashgabat on December 5, 2012.

It also terminated an agreement on cooperation in public health protection, the charter of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, an agreement on mutual assistance in case of accidents and other emergencies at electric energy facilities of CIS countries, an agreement on interaction between CIS countries in evacuating their citizens from third countries in case of emergencies, and an agreement on facilitating the functioning of border forces.

Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu said in February 2023 that Moldova was start its withdrawal from dozens of CIS agreements. He said the country was a signatory to about 330 CIS agreements, and many of them required revision.
