Ukrainian Railways increases grain, milling products transportation by 5.8% in Jan-Oct

MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia, UZ) state-owned company increased the amount of transportation of grain and milling products by 5.8%, or 1.32 million tonnes, in January-October 2023 in comparison with the same period of 2022, reaching 24.26 million tonnes, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to a UZ bulletin.

According to the bulletin, 17.55 million tonnes of grain and milling products were exported by rail in ten months of the year, which is 0.7% or 129,000 tonnes less than in the same period of 2022.

Overall, a total of 10.46 million tonnes of grain cargoes were transported by rail in the direction of the ports in ten months of the year, and it is 15% less than in the same period of 2022. At the same time, the volume of transportation in the direction of the border crossing points amounted to 7.09 million tonnes, which is 31% more than last year.

Transportation of grain cargoes in the direction of the ports has been increasing since August in light of the start of operations of a temporary sea corridor to the ports of Greater Odessa, Ukrainian Railways said.

Part of grain transportation in the ports direction reached 56.8% in October, it said.
